Shatta Wale Expands Shaxi To Kumasi

BY Grace Zigah

Dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has extended his entrepreneurial ambitions beyond music by officially launching his ride-hailing business, Shaxi, in Kumasi.

The move, which comes after the service gained traction in Accra, is part of Shatta Wale’s vision to position Shaxi as a leading alternative to global giants like Uber and Bolt within Ghana’s transport space.

The Kumasi launch was tied to Shaxi’s sponsorship of Sarkodie’s “Homecoming” Rapperholic Concert, which took place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 27, 2025.

Performing at the event, Shatta Wale used the platform to announce his next big goal: to make Shaxi Kumasi’s number one ride-hailing app while committing 20 percent of proceeds from the business to the Manhyia Palace.

Supporting Education And Healthcare

According to Shatta Wale, the pledged revenue will go towards supporting schools and hospitals in the Ashanti Region under the auspices of the Manhyia Palace, the traditional seat of the Asante Kingdom.

This gesture, he said, was his way of showing appreciation to the people of Kumasi and giving back to a city that has long supported his music career.

In a post on his Facebook page following the launch, the dancehall artist expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and his fans in the region.

“Small time, Shaxi will be Kumasi’s number 1 ride-hailing app and I will give 20% of our proceeds to the Manhyia Palace to cater for schools and hospitals in the region. The love is too much, the support is too much. I thank you OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II… I bow my King,” Shatta Wale wrote.

The Journey of Shaxi

Shaxi, short for Shatta Taxi, was launched in 2021 as Shatta Wale’s attempt to create jobs for Ghanaian youth while offering affordable transportation.

The service initially faced skepticism, with many questioning its ability to compete with established international brands.

However, through persistent promotion, celebrity endorsements, and integration into events, the brand has managed to carve out a niche, especially among Shatta Wale’s fan base, the Shatta Movement (SM).
