It Was Water, Not Alcohol: Adobea’s Parents Face Public Fury Over Viral Video

BY GRACE ZIGAH

The parents of young Ghanaian content creator Adobea have broken their silence following the widespread outrage over a viral video in which their daughter appeared to be interacting with what many viewers believed was an alcoholic drink.

The controversy escalated after the footage circulated widely on social media, prompting strong criticism from members of the public who questioned how a young child could have been involved in content featuring what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage.

In an attempt to clarify what happened, Adobea’s mother explained that she was physically present when the video was recorded. She said the family had gone out together on Sunday, August 30, 2026, and that she personally consumed the beverage that was later seen in the content.

According to the mother, the circumstances surrounding the recording were different from what many viewers assumed after watching the footage.

She said TikToker Efya Gongon, who was involved in the creation of the content, told her that the video was supposed to carry an advisory message aimed at warning young people about the dangers associated with alcohol consumption.

The mother further explained that after she had consumed the original beverage, Adobea subsequently filled the bottle with water before the recording took place.

She therefore maintained that although the bottle appeared to contain alcohol in the viral footage, her daughter was not consuming the alcoholic drink as some members of the public had feared.

The parents have now appealed to the public for forgiveness, acknowledging the widespread reaction and the distress caused by the video. Adobea’s mother expressed regret over the controversy and assured members of the public that the incident would not be repeated.

The family also stressed that there was no intention to encourage or normalise alcohol consumption among children. Their explanation was aimed at providing context to a video that, according to them, was intended to deliver an educational warning rather than promote drinking.

However, the clarification has not completely ended the debate. Some social-media users have questioned whether the decision to use a bottle associated with alcohol was appropriate in the first place, particularly when a child was involved in the production.
