Thirty-six distinguished journalists and leading media houses have earned nominations for the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The event, one of the most anticipated on the media calendar, will celebrate excellence, integrity, and professionalism in journalism under the theme: “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security, and the Fight Against Galamsey.”

This year’s nominees represent the best of Ghana’s media landscape — from print and broadcast to digital journalism — showcasing individuals whose works have significantly influenced public discourse and national development.

Among the shortlisted journalists are Severious Kale-Dery, Timothy Ngnenbe, and Edmund Smith-Asante from the Daily Graphic, all recognized for their in-depth reporting and consistency in quality journalism.

Also nominated are Ridwan Karim Dini-Osman of the EIB Network, Sarah Apenkro of TV3, Rachel Kakraba, Doreen Ampofo, Peter Agengre, and Esther Aidoo of GBC, as well as Philip Teye Agbove and Justice Baidoo from The Fourth Estate. Others on the prestigious list include Anass Sabit and Ohemeng Tawiah of JoyNews, Muftau Nabila Abdulai of MyJoyOnline, and Albert Oppong Ansah, Issifu Dasmani Laary, Solomon Gumah, and James Amoo from the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

The nominations further extend to notable media houses that have consistently demonstrated commitment to ethical standards and impactful storytelling.

Outlets such as Joy FM, Citi FM, Peace FM, Adom TV, UTV, GTV, and Daily Graphic are also in contention for institutional recognition, highlighting their collective role in advancing free and responsible journalism in Ghana.

The GJA General Secretary, Dominic Hlordzi, in announcing the nominees, commended the high calibre of submissions received this year, describing the nominees as “ambassadors of credible journalism who have upheld the principles of truth, fairness, and accountability.”

He emphasized that the selection process was rigorous and transparent, reflecting the Association’s renewed commitment to promoting ethical reporting in a fast-changing media environment.

The 29th edition will be held under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, who serves as Patron of the Awards.

The Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker will be John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.

Other distinguished guests expected to attend include Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, and His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Acting Chief Justice.

The event is hosted by the GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, and proudly sponsored by the KGL Group, led by Executive Chairman Alex Apau Dadey.

The awards ceremony, to be broadcast live on GBC News, CTV, and major media platforms, will not only celebrate outstanding journalism but also reaffirm the media’s responsibility in promoting peace, transparency, and sustainable development — especially amid the ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining and maintain national security.

For the nominees, this recognition stands as a testament to their tireless pursuit of truth and the vital role they play in shaping democracy.

The GJA has assured that the November 8 ceremony will be a memorable celebration of journalistic courage and excellence, honouring both individual brilliance and collective dedication to nation-building.
