Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed deep gratitude to his campaign team, party executives, and delegates nationwide as provisional results from the party’s presidential primary indicate that he is leading the race with more than 50 percent of votes counted so far.

Speaking on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at his campaign office in Accra as results from several constituencies began trickling in, Dr. Bawumia described the contest as one of the most fiercely fought internal elections in the history of the NPP.

He credited his strong showing to the collective efforts, sacrifices, and dedication of the people who stood by him throughout the nationwide campaign.

“Let me thank all of you. We’ve gone through a journey. It’s been a fierce battle that we’ve waged across the country, across all the regions, and we couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the team around me,” Dr. Bawumia told supporters gathered at his office.

Praise for Campaign Leadership And MPs

The former Vice President reserved special commendation for the leadership of his campaign team, mentioning key figures who played central roles in organising his bid.

Among them were the National Campaign Coordinator, former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and Campaign Manager Fred Opare Ansah.

He also acknowledged the Members of Parliament who publicly endorsed and worked tirelessly to support his campaign, describing their contribution as instrumental in his progress.

Acknowledgement Of Party Stakeholders And Institutions

Dr. Bawumia further extended appreciation to party executives at all levels, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible primary process.

His remarks came at a time when the NPP is seeking to rebuild and reorganise following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, making the flagbearer race a critical step in shaping the party’s direction ahead of the 2028 polls.

Tribute to Party Founders and Past Leaders

In an emotional moment, Dr. Bawumia paid tribute to the founding fathers and past leaders of the New Patriotic Party, noting that their sacrifices laid the foundation upon which the party continues to grow.

He mentioned iconic figures such as the late Prof. Albert Adu Boahen, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, describing their legacy as the backbone of the party’s tradition.

“It is really humbling that I have been elected to continue the work they started,” he said, while also acknowledging the contributions of former Members of Parliament who helped shape the party’s history.

Provisional Results Show Bawumia Ahead

Provisional results from key constituencies across the country show Dr. Bawumia leading his contenders in major party strongholds, placing him firmly in front as counting continues nationwide.

The developments have strengthened growing expectations within the party that Dr. Bawumia is on course to secure victory and lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
