In a move hailed as a milestone for the energy landscape, the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) have established a joint working committee aimed at fostering collaboration and accelerating development in the country’s oil and gas sector.
The announcement comes after a series of preliminary discussions between the respective CEOs, Dr. Toni Aubynn (PHDC) and Kwame Ntow Amoah (GNPC), which laid the groundwork for formal cooperation.

The joint committee will be co-chaired by Onasis Rosely Kobby, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations and Technical) at PHDC, and Michael N. A. Aryeetey, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Exploration & Production) at GNPC.
The group is tasked with engaging extensively to identify potential areas of partnership, streamline coordination between the two agencies, and implement projects that support the energy development agenda.
Onasis Kobby expressed gratitude on behalf of his CEO, to GNPC’s management for their support and receptiveness, noting that the collaboration underscores the need for synergy among institutions in the energy sector.
He highlighted that such partnerships are central to achieving the vision set by John Dramani Mahama and Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor to secure reliable, sustainable energy for the nation.
Michael Aryeetey echoed these sentiments, emphasising that GNPC’s aspiration to become a fully-fledged energy company would be significantly strengthened through collaboration with PHDC.
He remarked that the high-level representation on the committee reflects the priority both institutions place on this partnership and committed GNPC to fast-tracking the engagement process to identify mutually beneficial opportunities.
The collaboration comes at a critical moment in the energy sector, which has been pursuing strategies to enhance local value addition, develop petroleum infrastructure, and expand upstream and downstream capabilities.
PHDC’s mandate to develop the country’s petroleum hub complements GNPC’s core operations in exploration, production, and resource management, creating potential for integrated projects that can boost national energy security and industrial growth.
Onasis Kobby expressed confidence that the partnership will produce tangible success stories, not only for the two institutions but for Ghana as a whole.
