28 Containers Missing At Tema Port

A group of importers has petitioned the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to investigate the alleged unauthorised removal, transfer and disappearance of 28 containers from the Tema Port.

In a petition dated September 29, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner-General of the GRA, the importers raised concerns over the status of containers that were reportedly at various stages of the clearance process.

According to the importers, the 28 containers were subsequently found to be empty, missing, transferred or moved out of the port without the knowledge or consent of their owners.

The petition identified the affected containers using their respective bill of lading numbers and called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation to establish how the containers were removed or transferred from the port.

The importers stated that some of the affected container owners had already lodged an official complaint with the Tema Regional Police Command, leading to the arrest of some individuals allegedly connected to the incident.

The matter reportedly came to light after some owners discovered that goods linked to their consignments were being offloaded from one of the containers into a warehouse near the GHACEM area in Tema.

The importers have asked the GRA to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 28 containers and determine how they were moved from the port without the knowledge of their owners.

They have also indicated their readiness to cooperate with the GRA, the police and other relevant authorities by providing information and documentation that could assist in the investigation.

The petition includes a detailed list of the affected containers, together with the status of each container as established by the importers.
