Ghana’s junior badminton team, the Golden Shuttlers, has secured one silver and three bronze medals at the 2026 All Africa U-19 Badminton Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The impressive medal haul highlights Ghana’s growing presence in junior badminton on the African continent, with the team still having opportunities to add to its collection before the tournament concludes.
Ghana’s medals have come across several events, including the men’s singles, mixed team relay and mixed doubles.
The team secured a bronze medal in the men’s singles after its campaign ended with a defeat to Mauritius in the final.
Ghana also claimed bronze in the mixed team relay after losing to Algeria in the semi-finals. Another bronze medal came in the mixed doubles event, further contributing to Ghana’s strong showing at the championships.
The performance has attracted praise from Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams, who congratulated the young athletes for their achievements.
“I am pleased that, through the support of Government and the Ministry, these young athletes have had the opportunity to represent Ghana and test themselves against some of Africa’s best,” Adams said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes across different sporting disciplines.
“This is why we will continue supporting opportunities across our sporting disciplines and investing in pathways for our young talents,” he added.
The 2026 All Africa U-19 Badminton Championships will continue until October 17, leaving the Golden Shuttlers with further opportunities to compete for additional medals.
