By Daniel Bampoe

The simmering feud between popular gospel musician Empress Gifty Adorye and controversial televangelist Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Agradaa, has taken a sharp legal turn as the musician filed a defamation lawsuit demanding GH₵20 million in damages.

According to a writ of summons issued by the High Court in Tema and signed by the court registrar, Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye is suing Patricia Asiedua (alias Evangelist Mama Pat or Agradaa) for alleged slander and libel.

The suit was filed through the law firm Ossei-Aidooh Akpokavie Kyere & Co, with lawyer Sam Kyere acting on behalf of the plaintiff.

In her statement of claim, Empress Gifty accuses Agradaa of making defamatory statements through videos and audio clips circulated on social media platforms.

The plaintiff is seeking four key reliefs from the court:

1. General damages of GH₵20 million for defamation;

2. A perpetual injunction to restrain Agradaa and her associates from making or publishing similar defamatory remarks;

3. A court order compelling Agradaa to delete all related videos and audio content from her social media platforms;

4. Payment of legal fees and other associated costs.

The writ directs Agradaa to respond within eight days or risk a default judgment.

Background

This legal showdown follows months of tension that began with a separate controversy involving Agradaa and Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A viral video emerged showing Gyamfi allegedly giving Agradaa an undisclosed amount of money, sparking widespread speculation and backlash.

While Sammy Gyamfi later claimed the act was one of goodwill and supporting a needy person, the backlash prompted the Chief of Staff to summon the Goldbod’s acting CEO to explain the incident.

In response to the video, Hopeson Adorye, and his wife, Empress Gifty, publicly urged NDC supporters to investigate Agradaa’s activities and alleged influence.

Nana Agradaa retaliated, dragging Empress Gifty into the fray with personal attacks online—escalating the spat from political scandal to personal vendetta.

In a TikTok live session, Hopeson Adorye warned netizens against insulting his wife, declaring himself her “gatekeeper” and cautioning that any attack on her was an attack on him.

Empress Gifty and Adorye addressed their grievances on social media, prompting further commentary from fans and critics.

Public and Social Media Reactions

The feud has generated widespread online commentary, with Ghanaians taking sides.

While some users praised Agradaa’s boldness, others stood firmly with Empress Gifty, condemning personal attacks and calling for civility.

The High Court is yet to fix a date for hearing the case. Meanwhile, the public awaits Agradaa’s official response to the summons.
