A fetish priest, Agya Koo, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region for repeatedly raping his daughter and impregnating her three times.
The disturbing case highlights the need for increased awareness and action to prevent child abuse and exploitation.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, disclosed that the abuse began when she was in her mid-teens.
Her father, Agya Koo, manipulated her into believing that a river spirit had married her spiritually and that he had been chosen by the spirit to sleep with her.
The abuse continued for over five years, leading to multiple pregnancies and forced abortions under the guise of spiritual cleansing.
The victim’s mother, who is now separated from Agya Koo, reported the matter to the police after discovering the abuse.
The investigation revealed that Agya Koo had forced his daughter to undergo abortions and had even made her accuse an innocent boy of being responsible for one of the pregnancies, leading to the boy being fined by the community.
Agya Koo was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after admitting to having sexual relations with his daughter.
The court’s decision serves as a reminder that child abuse and exploitation will not be tolerated in society.
