GFA Unveils 2025/26 Football Calendar

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially approved the 2025/26 Omnibus Competitions Calendar, which outlines the schedule for the upcoming football season.

The new season will run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, and has been carefully crafted to accommodate the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11, 2026.

Key Features of the 2025/26 Season

The calendar includes several key features:

– Premier League matches will continue to be played on Sundays, with midweek slots available for outstanding fixtures.
– Division One League and Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League matches will retain their Sunday matchdays.
– The MTN FA Cup will feature weekend matches, with a few ties in the Round of 64 and Round of 32 potentially taking place midweek.
– The Women’s FA Cup will be held exclusively on weekends.
– The eTrophy – GFA eFootball Competition will return this season, providing a pathway to the national eFootball team.
– Beach Soccer and Futsal Premier Leagues will continue as part of the GFA’s expanded competition structure.

Regional Football and Colts Competitions

The calendar also includes details on Regional Football Association (RFA) leagues, which will begin on or before October 1, 2025, and wrap up by May 31, 2026.

Additionally, the GFA will roll out Girls Colts competitions (U15 and U17) nationwide, following successful pilots in the Northern and Greater Accra Regions.

Off-Season Competitions

The calendar includes space for off-season tournaments, such as the Elite U15 Girls Championship, Elite U19 Second Division Championship, Boys U15 Elite Competition, and the KGL Foundation U17 Colts Championship.

Early Release of Key Dates

The GFA has released key dates, including club registration periods and the 31st GFA Annual Congress, to give stakeholders ample time for planning.

The early release of the calendar aims to ensure a structured and competitive season across all divisions and age groups.
