Heart Of Lions Cries Over Lack Of Transparency In Transfer System

BY Grace Zigah

The Administrator of Kpando Heart of Lions, Stephen Botchway, has bemoaned the lack of transparency in the Ghanaian transfer system, which he says makes it difficult for clubs to scout and sign players.

Unlike in Europe, where clubs have access to data and can easily acquire players, Ghanaian clubs have to rely on trials and word of mouth.

Trials And Tribulations

Heart of Lions recently held trials for 15 players, who trained with the first team for three weeks.

Botchway explained that this hands-on approach is necessary due to the lack of data infrastructure in Ghana.

“The Ghanaian system is not that transparent compared to Europe where you want to buy a player, you have the data of the player and then you can easily acquire the player,” he said.

Scouting Challenges

Botchway lamented that scouting players in Ghana is a challenge, as clubs often find it difficult to watch other opponents and identify potential signings.

“We are in Ghana where you even find it difficult to watch other opponents to justify who you want to get into your team,” he added.

New Signings

Despite the challenges, Heart of Lions is expected to sign new players ahead of the 2025-26 Ghana Premier League season.

Botchway said that the club will finalize signings after the trials and ensure that the squad is fully prepared for the new season.

“We will bring in players, some will leave, some will come, but we want to ensure that the right players come and join Heart of Lion Football Club before the season begins,” he said.
