A shocking double murder has rocked the quiet town of Nalerigu in the North East region after two students of Nalerigu Senior High School (SHS) were reportedly shot and killed on campus by unidentified gunmen on the night of Saturday, July 26, 2025.
The brutal attack has triggered widespread fear among students, parents, and residents, reigniting concerns over security in the region and raising questions about a possible link to the protracted tribal conflict in nearby Bawku.
While full details of the incident remain unclear, local sources have hinted at a potential connection to the Bawku ethnic clashes, which have historically spilled over into surrounding areas.
However, as of Saturday evening, security officials have not confirmed this as a motive behind the killings.
In an interview with Citi Newsroom, the Headmaster of Nalerigu SHS, Mohammed Tibila, confirmed the tragic deaths occurred within the school premises.
“It’s a very sad situation. Two of our students were killed right here on campus last night,” he said, expressing deep concern about the safety of students and staff.
The police have yet to release an official statement on the matter, but sources say investigations are ongoing.
The identities of the victims, both believed to be final-year students, have not been publicly disclosed pending notification of their families.
