Final preparations have reached an advanced stage for the burial and funeral of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, as his family, children and the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission set aside earlier disagreements over succession to unite in honouring one of the most celebrated inventors, industrialists and religious leaders.
Organisers say all arrangements have been completed to give the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission a befitting state-scale farewell befitting his remarkable contributions to engineering, science, automobile manufacturing, agriculture, education and national development.
The funeral is expected to draw thousands of mourners from across Ghana and abroad, including political leaders, traditional rulers, religious groups, diplomats, industrialists and members of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The renewed unity among members of the Safo family follows weeks of public debate over the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission after the passing of the revered spiritual leader.
However, family members have now indicated that their immediate focus is to celebrate the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, whose pioneering work placed Ghana at the forefront of indigenous technological innovation.
The burial ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Kantanka Automobile Manufacturing Centre at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, the industrial complex established by the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo to realise his vision of building a wholly Ghanaian automobile manufacturing industry.
In accordance with his final wishes, a permanent memorial facility has been constructed within the manufacturing centre to preserve his life’s work for future generations.
The memorial is expected to house his personal belongings, including his clothing, footwear, engineering tools, inventions, automobile prototypes, scientific designs and other selected works that reflect decades of innovation and creativity.
Family members believe the facility will serve as a centre of learning and inspiration, allowing future generations to appreciate Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s contribution to the industrialisation and technological advancement.
The national funeral service will take place on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Black Star Square in Accra, where thousands of Ghanaians are expected to pay their final respects to the renowned inventor and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The event is expected to attract an unprecedented gathering of national and international dignitaries.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lead the government’s delegation, accompanied by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, ministers of state and other senior government officials.
Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have also indicated their intention to attend the funeral in recognition of Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s immense contribution to the development.
Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is also expected to attend alongside national executives of both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, together with Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority caucuses, are also expected to participate in the national farewell.
In recognition of Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s immense contribution to Ghana, Parliament is expected to pay a special tribute to his memory.
Speaker Bagbin has directed that a statement be made on the floor of Parliament in honour of the late inventor, with Members from both sides of the House expected to reflect on his pioneering role in engineering, science, technology and industrial development.
As part of Parliament’s tribute, Parliament TV will broadcast a special documentary throughout the week highlighting Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s remarkable achievements in automobile manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, education and scientific innovation.
The funeral is also expected to witness the participation of thousands of members of the Kristo Asafo Mission from every region of Ghana, together with delegations from the church’s international branches, who will join family members, friends, admirers and well-wishers in celebrating the life of their founder and spiritual leader.
The final funeral rites will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, where family members, church leaders, members of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the general public will gather to offer prayers of thanksgiving for a life devoted to faith, innovation and national service.
