The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano in the Eastern region, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, has launched the 2026 edition of the MP’s Community Soccer League for the Coaltar Zone, with a commitment to use the competition as a platform to discover and develop promising football talents from the constituency.
The official launch, held on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the Dokrochiwa Community Park, brought together footballers, community members, party executives, supporters and other stakeholders.
The initiative is being organised under the theme “Restoring Hope Through Sports, Entertainment and Talent Hunt”, reflecting the MP’s objective of using football not only for recreation and entertainment but also as a vehicle for youth development, community mobilisation and talent discovery.
Speaking at the event, Ida Adjoa Asiedu explained that the community soccer league would be extended beyond the Coaltar Zone to other parts of the constituency.
She disclosed that competitions would subsequently be organised in the Asuoboi and Anum Apapam zones, as part of a broader constituency-wide programme designed to give young footballers the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
The Ayensuano MP said one of the major objectives of the competition is to identify talented players who could progress to higher levels of football, including opportunities at the national level.
She expressed the hope that the constituency could produce players capable of representing Ghana and making an impact beyond Ayensuano.
According to the MP, football remains more than just a sporting activity, as it can bring communities together, promote discipline and teamwork, keep young people engaged in productive activities and provide hope and direction for the future.
She therefore encouraged the participating players to approach the competition with seriousness, discipline and determination, stressing that the tournament could become an important stepping stone for talented young footballers.
As part of her support for the participating teams, Ida Adjoa Asiedu also presented jerseys and footballs to the players, reinforcing her commitment to creating the necessary conditions for young people in the constituency to participate actively in sports.
The launch featured teams from the Coaltar Zone, including IAOWO AA, Kraboa, Dok City, Smek FC and Anom M, who are expected to compete for honours as the community league progresses.
