The Cape Coast High Court has awarded Assin South Member of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, GH₵700,000 in damages in a defamation lawsuit against Stephen Cobbah and Yaw Koranteng.
The court ruled that the two defendants had published defamatory statements against the MP on the Assinman Politics Gh WhatsApp group platform.
Background
The lawsuit stems from statements made by Cobbah and Koranteng that damaged Rev. Fordjour’s reputation. The MP had initially sought GH₵1,000,000 in damages.
The court’s judgment not only awarded damages but also issued a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from further publishing defamatory statements against Rev. Fordjour.
Court’s Ruling
The court ordered the defendants to retract the defamatory statements and render an unqualified written apology.
The apology must be published on the Assinman Politics Gh WhatsApp group platform and any other social media platforms where the defamatory statements were circulated.
