Alleged Corrupt NPP Officials In Trouble

-BY Daniel Bampoe

The Office of the Attorney-General, led by Dr. Dominic Ayine and his Deputy, Dr. Justice Sai, is poised to initiate criminal proceedings against several former public officials affiliated with the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

The move signals what appears to be a broader anti-corruption push by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as it ramps up efforts to hold alleged offenders accountable.

The Attorney-General is set to file the charges against the individuals at the courts this week.

According to sources within the Attorney-General’s Department, one of the high-profile individuals expected to be charged this week is Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau.

He, along with his wife and other unnamed persons, is under investigation for what has been described as serious criminal offences against the state.

The details of the charges have not been officially released, but insiders indicate they relate to financial crimes and abuse of office during his tenure.

More notably, Adu Boahene is also likely to face fresh charges in a previously undisclosed case involving an alleged fraud scheme worth GHS60 million.

The alleged offence is said to have targeted a separate state institution and was uncovered through ongoing investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

This revelation adds another layer of legal complexity to the former security chief’s troubles.

In a bold legal counterattack, Adu Boahene filed a civil defamation suit against the Attorney-General following a recent press conference in which Dr. Ayine disclosed elements of the alleged crimes.

These disclosures, based on EOCO’s investigations, have sparked a public debate over the boundaries of prosecutorial conduct and the rights of individuals under investigation.

The imminent charges against Adu Boahene follow closely on the heels of a major legal action taken by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Monday.

The OSP, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, filed 15 criminal charges against Charles Bissue, a former Presidential Staffer and Secretary to the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCM).

Charles Bissue has long been at the center of controversies involving alleged corruption and mismanagement related to the fight against illegal mining, known locally as “galamsey”.

The latest prosecutorial moves suggest a calculated strategy by the NDC administration to aggressively pursue cases of alleged corruption under the previous government.

While critics within the NPP have labeled the legal actions as politically motivated, government officials maintain that the prosecutions are rooted in independent investigations and the rule of law.
