We have taken notice of a worrying attempt by the NDC to douse the fire stocked by a headmaster’s sexual escapades.
The Acting Director of Elections of the ruling NDC Mahdi Gibril has stated that his party is proud of Zakari Abdulai headmaster of the Obuasi Senior High And Technical School who is also the Secretary of the party in the Juaben constituency, Ashanti Region.
Nineteen female students have already accused the headmaster of sexually abusing them an indication that there are twice or thrice that number who will not show up because of the stigma such abuse carries.
Such an irresponsible conduct by a man in whose care female students have been entrusted should not elicit the kind of garbage the Director of Elections has spewed.
It is unfortunate that a ruling party’s top official would seek to defend such a pedophile who has a similar record in previous schools where he served.
Mahdi’s position that until investigations are concluded the headmaster’s bid to vie for the chairmanship position of the party stands, points at one thing: the randy headmaster will be protected at the hilt by the NDC machinery.
Knowing the NDC for their ability to interfere with the outcome of investigations or even ignoring same Zakaria will be unscathed.
That a case whose investigation has been concluded and docket sent to the Attorney General’s Department for advice will have this kind of reaction points at the NDC’s confidence that the headmaster would return to post and even win the chairmanship bid.
This is the kind of political party the NDC is. Sexual scandals in this party are not matters which should attract the kind of seriousness they generally do and examples abound to underscore this.
Cases of top party persons having sexual encounters with married women and in some instances this spilling over to the public domain as in the Kasoa case are not new in the NDC.
The University of Ghana episode in which a lecturer was accused of a grade-for-sex saga and ‘violent kiss’ is fresh in our memories. Although he was found culpable and even suspended today that man has been offered a top appointment in the current administration as such criminal misconducts do not matter in our society.
It is regrettable that sexual predators rather than being sanctioned for their criminal conducts are rather exalted and protected as the Acting Elections Director is doing.
The case of Zakari Abdulai is a test case for whether or not the law has two standards in this country under a reset agenda. Had the headmaster been an NPP activist he would have been driven from Obuasi in the wee hours of the night to Accra his whereabouts unknown even to his family.
Is that what we mean by a reset country under the aegis of President John Mahama?
As for us we can bet that Zakaria Abdulai will be treated differently because he is NDC and under a reset agenda such persons are exempt from judicial sanctions.
Such cases have a way of being dealt with. They could just be left to hang without movement until they die naturally.
Why would a randy headmaster known in the community in which he lives for his unbridled libido be given such kid’s glove treatment? He belongs to the ruling party, is the answer.
A morally ailing society exhibits such symptoms. Only a political change will ensure a return to normalcy in law enforcement and justice administration.
We shall return to this subject.
