Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North, Barima Asiedu-Larbi, has officially entered the race for the position of Eastern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), promising to spearhead an aggressive organizational transformation aimed at restoring the party’s electoral fortunes in the region ahead of the 2028 general elections.
His decision comes as nominations officially open for the NPP’s Regional Executive Elections, with the Eastern Region expected to witness one of the keenest contests for the influential secretary position.
Barima Asiedu-Larbi formally picked and filed his nomination forms to contest the position, declaring his readiness to lead what he describes as a comprehensive rebuilding agenda designed to reposition the NPP after its disappointing performance in the 2024 general elections.
The Regional Secretary position is regarded as one of the most strategic offices within the party’s regional hierarchy, serving as the chief administrator responsible for coordinating party activities, implementing directives from the National Secretariat, maintaining official records, and ensuring effective communication between the regional and constituency structures.
Political observers say the contest for the Eastern Regional Secretary position is expected to be fiercely competitive, given the region’s historical significance as one of the NPP’s electoral strongholds and the party’s determination to recover lost parliamentary seats and increase its electoral margins in 2028.
Barima Asiedu-Larbi has anchored his campaign on what he calls a practical roadmap to rebuild the party from the grassroots, insisting that electoral victory can only be achieved through strong organization rather than rhetoric.
Rebuilding Party Structures
At the heart of his campaign is a commitment to reactivate and strengthen the party’s organizational structures from the polling station level through electoral areas, constituencies, and the regional secretariat.
Under the campaign theme “Rebuilding Strong Structures for Electoral Victory,” he says the party must undertake regular organizational assessments to measure the effectiveness of its structures while ensuring that every constituency operates strictly in accordance with the NPP Constitution.
He also intends to improve coordination among polling stations, constituency executives and the regional leadership to ensure smoother operations throughout the party.
According to him, a vibrant and functional grassroots organization remains the foundation upon which future electoral success will be built.
Modernizing Party Administration
Barima Asiedu-Larbi has also pledged to professionalize the administration of the Eastern Regional Secretariat through the adoption of modern technology and improved record management systems.
Campaigning under the theme “Professional Administration, Stronger Party,” he has proposed the digitization of party records, official correspondence and membership databases to improve efficiency and institutional memory.
He further intends to standardize administrative procedures across all constituencies while introducing improved reporting systems that will enhance communication between the regional office, constituency executives and the National Secretariat.
He believes efficient administration is essential for building a disciplined and responsive political organization capable of delivering results.
Empowering The Grassroots
Recognizing the importance of grassroots mobilization in the NPP’s political tradition, Barima Asiedu-Larbi has promised to increase engagement with polling station executives, whom he describes as the backbone of the party.
His campaign proposes regular constituency and electoral area meetings aimed at strengthening interaction between regional executives and local party structures.
He also intends to support grassroots initiatives that promote unity, activism and membership participation throughout the Eastern Region.
Operation Recapture
One of the central pillars of his campaign is what he has branded “Operation Recapture,” an initiative intended to restore the NPP’s electoral dominance in the Eastern Region.
He believes the party must undertake a comprehensive review of the 2024 election results to identify organizational weaknesses that contributed to electoral setbacks.
Based on those findings, he proposes constituency-specific recovery plans tailored to the unique political dynamics of each constituency.
The strategy will also introduce monitoring mechanisms to measure progress as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.
According to him, rebuilding cannot be achieved without honestly confronting the factors that led to previous electoral losses.
Promoting Unity After Internal Contests
Barima Asiedu-Larbi has also made party unity a central feature of his campaign.
Under the theme “One Party, One Mission,” he has pledged to promote reconciliation following internal elections while strengthening conflict resolution mechanisms across the region.
He says collaboration among all organs of the party, coupled with discipline, mutual respect and teamwork, will be critical to presenting a united front ahead of future national elections.
He believes internal cohesion will ultimately translate into electoral success.
Building Competent Leadership
The former Akuapem North MCE is further advocating continuous capacity building for party executives at every level.
His proposals include regular leadership workshops, administrative training programmes and constitutional orientation for newly elected executives to ensure they fully understand their responsibilities.
He argues that competent leadership is essential to maintaining an effective and disciplined political organization.
Accountability and Performance
Barima Asiedu-Larbi also intends to introduce measurable performance standards for constituency executives across the region.
His campaign proposes constituency performance reviews, regular reporting systems and structured feedback mechanisms to ensure accountability among party officers.
He says strengthening compliance with party decisions and constitutional provisions will improve confidence in the regional administration and enhance overall organizational effectiveness.
Strengthening Membership
Membership development forms another key component of his campaign. He has pledged to maintain an accurate regional membership database while introducing strategies aimed at improving member engagement and retention.
He also wants to deepen collaboration between the regional leadership and constituency executives to strengthen institutional structures throughout the Eastern Region.
A Five-Point Vision for Victory
Barima Asiedu-Larbi has packaged his campaign around five major commitments which he says will restore confidence in the party’s regional administration.
These include strengthening party structures, professionalizing administration, promoting unity, recapturing lost parliamentary seats through organizational reforms, and ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of party affairs.
His overall campaign slogan—”Strong Structures. Effective Administration. Victory Through Organization.”—captures what he describes as a practical blueprint for rebuilding the Eastern Regional branch of the NPP.
