The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially unveiled the calendar for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, with the country’s top-flight competition scheduled to kick off between September 4 and 7, 2026, and conclude between May 28 and 31, 2027.
The approved timetable forms part of the GFA’s efforts to ensure a well-structured football calendar that aligns with FIFA’s international schedule, allowing clubs, players and officials to effectively balance domestic and international commitments throughout the season.
The announcement also provides Premier League clubs with sufficient time to prepare for the new campaign following the GFA Congress on August 20, where key decisions relating to Ghana football are expected to be taken before the start of the season.
According to the Football Association, the league will maintain its weekend match schedule introduced in recent seasons, with fixtures primarily played on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Midweek matches will only be organised to clear outstanding fixtures, a move aimed at reducing fixture congestion and ensuring greater consistency throughout the campaign.
The scheduling strategy is expected to improve planning for clubs, enhance the quality of competition and provide supporters with a more predictable fixture list, while also creating a better working environment for match officials, broadcasters and commercial partners.
Defending champions Medeama Sporting Club will enter the new season seeking to retain the title they won during the 2025/26 campaign. The Tarkwa-based side will face stiff competition from the country’s traditional powerhouses and other ambitious clubs aiming to dethrone the champions.
The new season will also welcome three newly promoted clubs from the Division One League. Debibi United, FC AshantiGold 04 and Port City FC secured promotion after impressive campaigns in the second tier and will now test themselves against Ghana’s elite clubs as they seek to establish their place in the Premier League.
