NPP Extends Filing of National Officers Nomination Forms To August 29

BY Daniel Bampoe

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended the deadline for the filing of completed nomination forms for its 2026 National Officers Elections by two days, giving aspirants additional time to complete and submit their documents.

The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), in a press release dated August 21, 2026, announced that the filing period, originally scheduled to end on Thursday, August 27, has now been extended to Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The Committee said the decision was taken in response to the “significant level of interest” generated by the national officers’ elections and was intended to facilitate an orderly filing process.

Under the revised arrangement, aspirants who have picked nomination forms will have from August 23 to August 29 to file their completed forms for verification.

44 aspirants have picked forms

The extension comes after 44 aspirants had picked nomination forms as of the close of nomination activities on Thursday, August 20, according to the NOEC.

The figure was recorded on the fourth day of the nomination period, with two days remaining before the close of the period for picking up nomination forms on August 22.

The Committee said the additional filing time would ensure that every aspirant has adequate opportunity to submit and have his or her nomination documents verified.

The extension, however, does not alter the subsequent stages of the electoral timetable.

Vetting remains August 31

Despite the extension of the filing deadline, the NPP said the vetting of aspirants will commence as scheduled on Monday, August 31, 2026.

The party has therefore maintained the rest of the electoral calendar, including the publication of vetting results, appeals and the final election date.

The revised timetable is as follows:

– August 17–22: Opening and closing of nominations

– August 23–29: Filing of nomination forms

– August 31–September 3: Vetting of aspirants

– September 5: Publication of vetting results

– September 6–7: Appeals

– September 10: NEC/NC

– September 14: Notice of Poll

– October 3: Election of National Officers

October 3 poll unchanged

The extension does not affect the date for the election of the party’s national officers.

The NPP is still scheduled to elect its national officers on October 3, 2026, after the completion of the nomination, vetting and appeals processes.

The national elections will cover key positions including the National Chairperson, National Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communication Director.

The party’s earlier electoral regulations provide for an electoral college made up of representatives from the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional and Constituency Executive Committees, External Branch Executive Committees and other recognised party structures.

Committee cites orderly process

The NOEC said its decision to extend the filing period was aimed at ensuring that the process remains orderly and that all aspirants receive equal opportunity to participate.

The Committee, chaired by Frederick Opare-Ansah, reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the elections in a manner it described as fair, transparent, orderly and credible.

The extension therefore gives aspirants an additional two days to complete the administrative stage of the contest without affecting the timetable for vetting.
