The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the re-arrest of 33-year-old Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, popularly known as Baaluuse, in connection with the fatal shooting of General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah at the Kariminga police barrier in the Upper East Region.
The operation took place in the early hours of February 17, 2026, and marks a significant development in ongoing investigations into violent incidents linked to the Bawku conflict.
The suspect was apprehended at approximately 12:30 a.m. in his hideout at Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga.
The arrest was carried out as a joint intelligence-led mission by the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID) in Accra and the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Department (UER/PID), reflecting the high priority of the case.
During the operation, officers recovered and examined three mobile phones belonging to Iddrisu.
Police sources revealed that the devices contained videos showing the suspect handling AK-47 assault rifles and pistols, audio messages requesting arms and ammunition to support one faction in the ongoing Bawku conflict, and evidence linking him to a WhatsApp group called “Trusted Friends”, which reportedly used an image of a rival chief in the dispute as its profile picture.
The incident at the Kariminga police barrier occurred on December 29, 2025, when unknown gunmen ambushed officers on lawful duty.
The attack resulted in the death of General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah and serious gunshot injuries to General Corporal Nyanku Charles and General Corporal Abu Moro.
The Police have since classified Iddrisu as a suspected “warrior” aligned with one of the feuding factions in Bawku and a person of interest in multiple other killings linked to the protracted conflict in the area.
The Ghana Police Service emphasized that attacks on law enforcement personnel are intolerable. Officials reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining law and order, underscoring that security personnel performing lawful duties must never be targeted.
Iddrisu remains in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities vowing to pursue all leads to bring those responsible for the violence in Bawku to justice.
