Ghana star Antoine Semenyo is rapidly establishing himself as an influential figure at Manchester City after another impressive display helped his side secure a narrow Premier League victory over Coventry City.
The Black Stars forward started and lasted the entire match at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, playing a key role as Manchester City claimed maximum points in their third league fixture of the 2026/27 campaign.
Semenyo made his presence felt in the 26th minute when he set up Erling Haaland for the only goal of the contest. The Ghanaian attacker provided the crucial assist before Haaland finished the move to put the hosts ahead.
Manchester City maintained their advantage for the remainder of the match despite Coventry’s efforts to find a response. The visitors created opportunities, but City remained in control enough to protect their lead and secure the victory.
The Ghana international has now registered two assists in his first three Premier League appearances of the new season, an encouraging return that underlines his increasing importance to City’s attacking options.
His performances will also be welcome news for Ghana as the Black Stars prepare for their next international assignments. Semenyo’s regular involvement at one of England’s leading clubs gives national team coach Carlos Queiroz another attacking player operating at the highest level of European football.
While Manchester City celebrated victory, it was a disappointing afternoon for Coventry and Ghanaian duo Caleb Yirenkyi and Brandon Thomas-Asante.
Yirenkyi entered the match in the 63rd minute before Thomas-Asante was introduced eight minutes later. Neither player was able to help Coventry overturn the deficit as City held on to their advantage.
The defeat means Coventry have endured a difficult beginning to life in the 2026/27 Premier League season. They have now lost all three of their opening matches, with Arsenal and Hull City also claiming victories against them.
Manchester City, meanwhile, secured another important result, with Semenyo once again making a direct contribution to the team’s attacking output.
The Ghanaian’s early-season numbers are likely to increase expectations around his role as the campaign progresses. Two assists in three league matches, combined with his ability to play a full 90 minutes, point to a player gradually earning greater responsibility within Guardiola’s side.
