UDS Honours Yaa-Naa Abukari II With Doctorate Degree For Exemplary Leadership

The University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale over the weekend conferred an honorary Doctorate Degree on the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, marking a significant moment in the institution’s history and in the chieftaincy institution of northern Ghana.

The ceremony officially bestowed on him the title Dr. Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to peacebuilding, cultural preservation, and community development.

The event, which attracted high-profile dignitaries including traditional rulers, academics, political leaders, and community figures, took place at the university’s main campus amid rich cultural displays and a celebratory atmosphere.

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who was present at the ceremony, described the honour as “fitting and well deserved,” highlighting the Yaa-Naa’s role in entrenching peace and stability in the Dagbon Kingdom since his enskinment in 2019.

UDS authorities recounted the transformative impact of the Yaa-Naa’s leadership, citing his pivotal role in consolidating peace after decades of conflict in Dagbon.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor SeiduAl-hassan praised his Majesty’s unwavering support for education, social cohesion, and youth development, noting that his influence has extended beyond traditional boundaries to national relevance.
