Close to two years into the second and last term of the John Mahama administration there is still ambiguity about what his flagship 24-Hour Economy is all about.
Contrast it with the unambiguous free SHS which the NDC paid money to be bastardised and there is no ambiguity about which of the two borders on scam.
Various players have rendered their versions of the meaning of the policy the latest being Mahama Ayariga, the newly appointed Local Government Minister. In his explanation recently he said that the use of the 24-hour economic market has tended to create the impression that the whole government flagship policy of 24-hour economy is about markets. This is a tacit admission that there is no clarity about the policy. Perhaps this has informed the decision to redesign it as he himself announced.
Under the redesigned programme according to him model economy markets would be established in each district of the country. From all indications the programme is in perpetual metamorphosis.
We have witnessed it change from a 1:3:3 job creator to markets where Ghanaians can buy wakye among others at midnight. Now it has been redesigned for district markets across the country.
Let us remember that the 24-Economy Secretariat has disowned the market segment of the policy the CEO Goosie Tanoh claiming his outfit has nothing to do with it.
We find it interesting and instructive that the programme will be completed in 2028 a year in which electioneering campaigns would be in a heightened mode.We can confidently state that the programme would likely be abandoned when the current political leadership changes.
We can also state that the sole-sourced contractors busily erecting signboards on demolished market, school and church sites will be fully paid before the government exits Jubilee House.
For the unemployed who saw in the dangled game-changer of a programme a salvation, they must revise their impressions and live with the outcome of a political scam intended only to hoodwink them to vote for the Umbrella.
When the next campaign season dawns let all the scammed persons consider their experience and be wise in taking their political or electoral decisions.
It is not about classifying all parties as same and refusing to go out to vote. Not voting is not an option because it will allow others including fools to take decisions on your behalf.
Empirical evidence abound to help citizens make informed electoral decisions. Which party promised a free SHS policy as a flagship entry in their manifesto and within a few months into their administration implemented it?
Which political grouping promised a game-changing policy but close to two years upon assumption of power has not only delayed in implementing it but has continued to change the terms of the policy?
