Tension is gripping Asiakwa, a community in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, when angry residents descended on a young man alleged to be behind a series of thefts that have plagued the town for months.
The suspect, described by locals as a “notorious robber,” was caught and severely assaulted after stolen items were discovered in his possession.
A Trail Of Thefts
Residents claim the suspect has been terrorizing the town by moving from one compound to another, stealing clothes, mobile phones, and chargers.
Nearly every household is said to have fallen victim to his operations, with many residents losing property on multiple occasions.
“He steals anything he can lay his hands on, especially clothes. People can’t even dry their things outside without fear,” one resident lamented.
Mob Action
Fed up with the persistent thefts, residents decided to take matters into their own hands.
They reportedly surrounded the suspect’s home after tracking him down.
In the heat of anger, the mob assaulted him, and eyewitnesses say he narrowly escaped being lynched.
The confrontation only ended after some opinion leaders intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further.
The Shocking Discovery
When residents searched the young man’s room, they uncovered piles of stolen items, including clothing, mobile phones, and dozens of phone chargers.
Many of the items were quickly identified by victims who had previously reported them missing.
The discovery confirmed suspicions that the suspect had been the one behind the string of thefts, and residents expressed outrage at the scale of his activities.
