A legal tussle has erupted between Accra-based lawyer, Gideon Tettey Tetteh, and a known National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist, Cassandra Leau, after the former filed a defamation suit at the Adenta Circuit Court.
The lawyer insists that all allegations levelled against him by Leau are false and damaging to his professional reputation.
Background
Court documents available to The Daily Gist indicate that Lawyer Tetteh, who practices with the firm Addison Bright Sloane, Barristers, Solicitors, and Consultants, filed the suit in August 2025 following what he described as a sustained campaign of defamation by Leau.
The case also names Sandra Asare, Leau’s cousin, as a co-defendant.
According to the statement of claim, the lawyer asserts that the two defendants — both residents of Community 8, Tema — have been “moving from office to office, and from one media house to another,” defaming him with unsubstantiated claims that he was involved in fraudulent job racketeering activities.
The plaintiff’s lawyers maintain that Leau and her cousin used his name falsely to collect money from unsuspecting individuals under the guise of securing them employment.
When the victims allegedly began to demand refunds, the defendants reportedly accused Lawyer Tetteh of being part of their fraudulent scheme.
Petition to CID
In addition to the civil suit, Lawyer Tettey Tetteh has formally petitioned the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), specifically the Financial Forensic Unit, to investigate Leau and her cousin for fraud.
The CID is said to have commenced investigations into the alleged scam, in which the two women purportedly invoked the lawyer’s name to lend credibility to their schemes.
Sources within the CID confirm that the Financial Forensic Unit is probing the matter, following the submission of evidence by the lawyer, including payment records and messages linking the suspects to the fraudulent job claims.
Court Proceedings And Absence of Defendant
Despite being served through electronic means — as directed under Rule 3A(1) of the High Court (Civil Procedure) (Amendment) Rules, 2019 (C.I. 122) — Cassandra Leau has allegedly failed to appear in court.
Court filings show that the plaintiff, through his counsel, has since filed a motion for judgment in default of appearance, citing the defendant’s failure to respond within the statutory eight-day period.
The plaintiff has also filed a motion for a restraining order, urging the court to bar the defendants, their agents, or assigns from making any further defamatory statements until the final determination of the case.
An affidavit in support of the motion, sworn by Philip Adimado, a clerk at Addison Bright Sloane Chambers, details how the defendants allegedly continued their defamatory conduct even after the suit was filed.
One incident cited in court records allegedly took place at Tayiba Restaurant in Haatso, where the defendants confronted the plaintiff and called him a “fraudster” and “scammer” in public before physically assaulting him with handbags and shoes.
Reliefs Sought
Lawyer Tettey Tetteh is seeking several reliefs from the court, including:
A declaration that the defendants have defamed his reputation;
A retraction of all defamatory statements made through the same media platforms used to defame him;
A restraining order preventing the defendants from further defamatory actions;
An award of special and general damages with interest at the prevailing bank rate; and
Costs, including legal fees and administrative expenses.

The defendants are yet to file any legal response or appearance.
