Adwoa Safo Denies Defecting To Her Baby Papa, Kennedy Agyapong Camp, Reaffirms Loyalty To Bawumia

Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has strongly refuted media reports claiming she has abandoned former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in favour of former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, her baby father.

In a strongly-worded statement released on Wednesday, Adwoa Safo described the publication by The Insight Newspaper as “false, misleading, and maliciously fabricated,” insisting that she remains “firmly loyal” to Dr. Bawumia and committed to his leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to her, the report — which alleged that she had switched allegiance following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections — was a calculated attempt to “create disaffection and confusion within the rank and file” of the party.

She stressed that at no point had she made any public or private declaration suggesting she had withdrawn support for Dr. Bawumia, describing the report as a “deliberate attempt to sow division and undermine party unity.”

Adwoa Safo, who served as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection under President Akufo-Addo, said she continues to hold immense respect for Dr. Bawumia, describing him as a “leader of exceptional humility, competence, and resilience.”

She maintained that despite the challenges the NPP faced in the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia remains the most suitable person to lead the party into the next electoral battle in 2028.

“Leadership transitions often come with challenges,” she noted, “but assigning blame to one individual for our 2024 electoral outcome is neither fair nor productive. Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to the NPP and to the service of Ghana cannot be questioned, and every dedicated servant deserves a second chance to serve and lead.”

Adwoa Safo’s statement comes at a time when the NPP is navigating internal post-election recriminations and a growing debate over the direction of the party ahead of 2028.

The defeat of the NPP in the 2024 general elections has led to mounting calls for introspection and restructuring, with factions emerging around key figures including Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong, who were the party’s main contenders during the 2023 presidential primaries.

The former Dome-Kwabenya legislator cautioned media houses against sensational and unverified reporting that could jeopardize party cohesion.

She urged The Insight Newspaper to retract the story and issue an apology for misleading the public.

“Responsible journalism demands fairness, accuracy, and truth — principles that must not be compromised for sensational headlines,” she stated.

Reaffirming her commitment to the NPP’s unity and revival, Adwoa Safo emphasized that her focus remains on supporting efforts to rebuild public trust and strengthen the party’s base ahead of 2028.

“The unity and progress of the NPP remain paramount, and I continue to pledge my unflinching support to Dr. Bawumia and to every effort aimed at consolidating the party’s base and preparing adequately for victory in 2028,” she affirmed.

Her response appears intended not only to clarify her personal political stance but also to reinforce calls within the NPP for restraint and unity following the party’s recent electoral setback.
