The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation into the mysterious death of a Senegalese national, identified as Cheikh Toure, in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed a Special Investigations Team comprising homicide detectives, forensic experts, and intelligence officers to assist the Ashanti Regional Police Command in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to preliminary police findings, on October 16, 2025, a man identified only as Issah, who claimed to be the brother of the deceased, reportedly took Toure to the Manhyia Government Hospital with severe abdominal injuries. Issah allegedly told medical personnel that the injuries were sustained in a road accident.
However, upon arrival, doctors pronounced Toure dead. Following his death, Issah is said to have deposited the body at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo, Kumasi.
The police have since taken up the matter, suspecting foul play due to inconsistencies in the account provided by Issah.
The Special Investigations Team is expected to conduct a comprehensive forensic analysis and gather intelligence to establish the exact cause of death, determine whether the deceased was indeed involved in an accident, and identify any individuals connected to his demise.
In a press release issued from the Public Affairs Directorate at the Police Headquarters in Accra, signed by Chief Superintendent Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Police Service assured the public of a thorough and transparent investigation.
The statement emphasized that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to upholding justice and maintaining public trust, pledging that “any perpetrators involved will be brought to justice.”
Police have urged anyone with relevant information to assist the investigation as efforts continue to piece together the events that led to the tragic death.
