Daddy Lumba Family Fires Back; Relatives Defend Widow

BY Issah Olegor

The family of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has issued a strongly worded press release addressing what it describes as growing distortions, falsehoods, and disrespectful public commentary surrounding the musician’s death and funeral arrangements.

The statement, released on December 6, 2025, marks the latest twist in an increasingly messy and emotional feud that has gripped the nation since Lumba’s passing.

The release comes on the heels of a series of controversies involving conflicting funeral dates, a secret autopsy allegation, competing widow claims, and a recent High Court ruling recognizing both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori as wives of the late musician.

The decision sharply divided the extended and direct families, triggering fresh disputes over legitimacy, authority, and the true marital status of the legendary singer.

Adding fuel to the fire, televised exchanges—especially on UTV—have seen prominent figures trade accusations, with some seeking to dismiss certain documents and individuals as illegitimate.

These public clashes have intensified scrutiny and prompted the direct family to formally set the record straight.

Family Affirms Papa Shee As Authorized Spokesperson

In the statement titled “LUMBA FAMILY UNITY, TRUTH & LEGACY,” the direct Fosuh family moves first to clarify the role of Nana Yaw Akosah, known widely as Evangelist Papa Shee.

The release firmly rejects claims that Papa Shee has no standing within the Lumba family:

“Any suggestion that he is not a family member or lacks the authority to speak on our behalf is false, unfounded, and must be put to rest.”

The family emphasizes that Papa Shee has been a confidant for years, deeply involved in internal matters, and was intentionally chosen to speak during this difficult period.

Attack on Widow’s Marriage Certificate

The statement also addresses comments made by Kofi Owusu, the Abusuapanin of the extended family, during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz.
Owusu had reportedly referred to the marriage certificate of Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, Lumba’s wife, as an “Ashtown document,” implying that the certificate was fabricated or lacked legitimacy.

The direct family called this characterization:

“pathetic and uninformed,”

a display of “bias and hostility,” and

an insult to a “lawful widow recognized under German and international law.”

The statement also criticized the TV host for failing to intervene or correct the misinformation on-air.

Funeral Poster Rejected as “Unauthorized and Misleading”

A funeral poster that surfaced online bearing the names of two women as “widows” of the late musician has been categorically dismissed by the direct family.

According to the release:

Akosua Serwaa did not approve the poster

Several family names on the poster were included without consent

The poster does not represent the official position of the Fosuh family

The family has urged the public to disregard it entirely.

Court Ruling Under Challenge: Family Plans Legal Action

While acknowledging the authority of the court, the family expressed strong disagreement with aspects of Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur’s ruling concerning the recognition of multiple wives.

They announced plans to seek further legal redress: “We will take steps to ensure that the full truth is established.”

The statement suggests that the battle over marital legitimacy—and by extension, over funeral rites—may be far from over.

“The Mercedes-Benz of Marriage Certificates” — Family Defends German Document

In a striking passage, the family sought to reassure Ghanaians in the diaspora, especially in Germany, who felt embarrassed that a German marriage certificate could be publicly dismissed.

The release praised the integrity of German marriage documentation: “A German Marriage Certificate remains one of the most respected legal instruments in the world — the Mercedes-Benz of marriage certificates.”

The family emphasized that it will defend its credibility and ensure that no ruling or public comment undermines its authority.

A Plea for Truth, Dignity, And Unity

The statement ends with a call for restraint, truth, and respect as the family navigates the emotional and legal complexities surrounding Daddy Lumba’s funeral:

“The Fosuh family remains united, focused, and committed to honoring the legacy of our beloved Charles Kwadwo Fosuh with dignity, transparency, and truth.”
