The Minerals Commission Chief Executive Officer, Martin Kwaku Ayisi is under fire for his continued stay in office despite the change in government.
Many are wondering why he hasn’t been replaced, especially since almost all CEOs and MDs appointed by the previous adm have either resigned or been forced to leave their positions following the NDC’s victory in the 2024 elections.
Martin Ayisi’s tenure has been marred by controversy, particularly with regards to the galamsey crisis.
Despite his claims of being a “workaholic,” critics argue that his leadership has failed to effectively address the issue of illegal mining, leading to the pollution of water bodies and the depletion of the country’s natural resources.
Furthermore, Martin Ayisi has been accused of entering into a pact with Ibrahim Mahama, brother of President John Dramani Mahama, to bring into being the dodgy GoldBod scheme.
He was recently appointed unto a committee established by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to oversee the illegal mining crisis facing the country.
This scheme would allegedly leave Ghana’s gold purchasing activities in the hands of one man, possibly the President’s brother.
Martin Ayisi’s actions have sparked outrage, with many calling for his removal from office.
Critics argue that his continued stay in office is a betrayal of the NPP, which he claims to be a part of. Instead, he appears to be doing the bidding of President Mahama’s brother.
In response to the criticism, a source close to Martin Ayisi has stated that he is committed to addressing the issue of illegal mining.
He has emphasized the need for a more sustainable approach to mining, citing the importance of geological investigations and the need to resource the Geological Survey Department.
However, his words have done little to alleviate concerns about his leadership and the potential for conflict of interest.
