Former Vice President and 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has continued his post-primary engagements with key international partners following a high-level meeting with representatives of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation in Accra.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, brought together Dr. Bawumia and the Foundation’s Country Director, Anna Wasserfall, as both sides discussed areas of mutual interest including democratic governance, the rule of law, human rights, and economic development.

In a statement after the engagement, Dr. Bawumia described the discussions as fruitful and reaffirmed the long-standing relationship between the New Patriotic Party and the German-based political foundation, which has over the years partnered political institutions and democratic actors across Africa in promoting governance and institutional development.

According to Dr. Bawumia, the discussions focused heavily on strengthening democratic institutions and advancing policies that would support economic growth and social stability in Ghana and across the sub-region.

“The New Patriotic Party and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation have had a long-standing cooperation over the years, and our discussions centered on areas of mutual concern, especially on the promotion of democracy, rule of law, human rights, and economic development,” he noted.

The latest engagement forms part of a series of strategic meetings Dr. Bawumia has undertaken since emerging victorious in the NPP presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, where he secured 56.48 percent of valid votes to become the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Since his election, Dr. Bawumia has intensified efforts to reposition both himself and the party through engagements with local and international stakeholders.

He has held meetings with former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, received delegations from the Minority Caucus in Parliament, former NPP MPs, religious leaders, diplomats, and policy institutions, all aimed at consolidating support and shaping the party’s rebuilding agenda toward 2028.

The engagement with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation also signals Dr. Bawumia’s intention to project himself internationally as a leader focused on governance reforms, democratic stability, and economic transformation.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation, which is affiliated with Germany’s Christian Democratic political tradition, has for decades maintained partnerships with democratic institutions and political parties in Ghana, including capacity-building programmes on governance, political participation, and const×itutional development.
