The final chapter of Juliana Bubune Titiati-Tsikata’s battle with cancer has brought renewed attention to a deeply personal message she shared months before her death, in which she credited businessman Ibrahim Mahama with playing a significant role in helping her through one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Bubune, who represented the Volta Region and finished as first runner-up in the 2013 edition of TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB), reportedly died after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Following news of her death, an emotional Facebook post she published in November 2025 has resurfaced, offering a glimpse into the people she believed stood by her during her health crisis.
In the post, Bubune shared a photograph of Ibrahim Mahama and expressed gratitude for what she described as his intervention at a critical point in her life.
She wrote: Today I am here because of this great man God used to save my life.
Bubune went further to describe Mahama’s support as timely, saying his concern extended beyond providing assistance. According to her, despite his demanding schedule, the businessman regularly checked on her during her difficult period.
She said his support had made a profound difference to her survival and expressed uncertainty about what might have happened had he not intervened.
“Had it not been for your love for humanity, I don’t know how the story would have ended for me.”
Bubune’s message portrayed Mahama not simply as a benefactor but as someone who, in her account, treated her like a member of his own family.
She thanked him for the various forms of assistance she received and prayed for his continued life, success and prosperity.
She also described him as “priceless” to her, underscoring the importance she attached to his support during her health struggles.
The post, which was written while she was still alive and battling her illness, has taken on a more poignant significance following reports of her death.
The cancer battle behind the public smile
Bubune’s health journey had been marked by a prolonged battle with T-cell lymphoma, a form of cancer affecting the lymphatic system.
Information from a fundraising campaign launched to support her treatment indicated that she had suffered a relapse and required further chemotherapy, followed by a stem cell transplant.
Her battle with the disease was also discussed publicly during her appearance on TV3’s Ladies Circle, where she shared aspects of her experience as a cancer survivor.
The illness came years after Bubune became a familiar face to Ghanaians through the Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant.
From GMB fame to community service
Bubune represented the Volta Region in the 2013 GMB competition, where she finished as first runner-up.
Her performance in the competition earned her national recognition and a prize of GH¢7,000, alongside a six-month supply of GTP fabrics.
However, her public profile extended beyond beauty pageantry.
Bubune was involved in social initiatives, including efforts to promote education among girls in the Volta Region. In 2015, she donated educational materials to pupils in the Akatsi North area and encouraged young girls to take their education seriously.
Her journey subsequently became intertwined with her battle against cancer, transforming her from a beauty-pageant contestant into a public figure whose experience offered encouragement to others facing serious illness.
