Hundreds of residents from the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency are benefiting from a major eye care intervention spearheaded by the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Annoh-Dompreh, as a free eye surgery programme officially gets underway at Valley View University, Oyibi.

The initiative forms part of the broader Nsawam-Adoagyiri Eye Care Project 2026, a constituency-wide health intervention designed to improve access to quality eye care and reduce preventable visual impairment among residents.

The surgery programme follows a massive free eye screening exercise conducted earlier this year in collaboration with medical partners from the United States and local health professionals. During the outreach, more than 3,000 residents from various communities within the constituency underwent comprehensive eye examinations and medical assessments.

Following the screenings, hundreds of beneficiaries were selected for further treatment, including corrective surgeries for various eye conditions.

In a demonstration of his commitment to ensuring that financial and transportation barriers do not prevent residents from accessing healthcare, Annoh-Dompreh facilitated free transportation for the beneficiaries from Nsawam-Adoagyiri to Valley View University.

On Saturday, buses arranged by the MP’s office conveyed the patients, many of them elderly men and women, to the facility to begin the surgical procedures.

The atmosphere at the medical facility was one of gratitude and relief as beneficiaries expressed appreciation for what many described as a life-changing opportunity.

Several patients recounted years of struggling with poor eyesight and limited access to specialist treatment, noting that the intervention had restored hope to them and their families.

Others offered prayers for Annoh-Dompreh, praising his dedication to improving the welfare of constituents through practical and impactful interventions.

The eye care initiative has been widely hailed as one of the most significant health outreach programmes undertaken in the constituency in recent years. Beyond infrastructure development and legislative representation, the programme highlights a people-centred approach to leadership that prioritises healthcare, social welfare and human development.

Residents and community leaders have commended the MP for his continuous investment in healthcare delivery, describing the intervention as evidence of responsive leadership.

Many noted that the programme will not only improve the quality of life of beneficiaries but also enhance productivity and economic well-being within families and communities.
