A Woman I Chopped Can’t Intimidate Me — Kasoa NDC Chairman Allegedly Targets MP In Leaked Audio

BY Grace Zigah

A fresh controversy has erupted within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency after an alleged statement attributed to Constituency Chairman Stephen Ofosu Agyare sparked outrage among party supporters, particularly members of the constituency’s Women’s Wing, who have demanded action against him.

The controversy centres on a widely circulated claim that the chairman allegedly remarked that a woman he had been intimate with could not intimidate or disrespect him, a comment that many party supporters believe was directed at the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.

The alleged remark has intensified an already bitter internal struggle between supporters of the constituency chairman and allies of the MP, exposing deep divisions that have plagued the constituency since the 2020 election cycle.

The latest development comes just days after a section of the NDC Women’s Wing in Kasoa staged a demonstration calling on the party’s national leadership to remove Mr. Ofosu Agyare from office over what they described as offensive and inappropriate comments about the MP.

The women argued that regardless of political disagreements, public officials and party executives must uphold standards of decency and respect, especially when discussing female political leaders.

Although the authenticity of the alleged statement remains a subject of debate, its circulation has triggered heated discussions across social media platforms and party WhatsApp groups, where factional battles have increasingly played out over the past two years.

The roots of the dispute reportedly date back to 2020 when Naa Koryoo first sought to contest the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC.

According to party insiders, she approached Chairman Ofosu Agyare, an influential businessman and constituency executive, for support in her political ambitions.

Sources claim the chairman provided significant support for her political activities during that period.

However, the relationship between the two reportedly deteriorated after the parliamentary elections.

Supporters of the chairman allege that he later developed personal expectations regarding the relationship, including a desire to marry Naa Koryoo as a second wife.

Those claims have remained the subject of political speculation and have not been independently verified.

According to accounts circulating within the constituency, Naa Koryoo subsequently informed the chairman that she was already committed to another relationship.

She later married Yussif Yunusah, an NDC activist based in the United States, a development that some party insiders believe widened the rift between the two camps.

Despite the apparent tensions, both sides reportedly worked together during the 2024 general elections as the NDC sought to capture the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat.

Their cooperation yielded results when Naa Koryoo secured victory and became the Member of Parliament for the constituency.

However, the fragile alliance reportedly collapsed shortly after the elections.

Supporters of Chairman Ofosu Agyare began accusing the MP’s husband and his associates of attempting to exert influence over appointments and political decisions within the constituency.

The allegations deepened factional divisions and led to a series of confrontations between party executives and grassroots members aligned with the two camps.

The conflict escalated further in January 2026 when Chairman Ofosu Agyare filed a defamation lawsuit against the constituency Youth Organizer, his deputy, and several branch executives.

The legal action exposed the growing hostility within the constituency and signaled that reconciliation efforts had largely failed.

Another episode that drew attention involved the arrest of King Eric, a member of the NDC Central Regional Communications Team and a known ally of the chairman, following a heated dispute on a party WhatsApp platform.

Party insiders say the constituency has since remained sharply divided, with both factions engaged in a prolonged struggle for influence.

Reports also suggest that Naa Koryoo is backing a rival candidate to challenge Chairman Ofosu Agyare in the next constituency executive elections, a move that could further escalate tensions ahead of the party’s internal contests.

At the same time, the chairman is reportedly considering a parliamentary bid of his own, setting the stage for a potentially explosive political showdown within the constituency.

Members of the Women’s Wing who demonstrated against the chairman say their anger is not only about the alleged comments but also about what they perceive as a pattern of conduct that could damage the image of the party.

They have called on the national leadership of the NDC to investigate the matter and take appropriate action if the allegations are substantiated.

Meanwhile, supporters of Chairman Ofosu Agyare insist that he has been unfairly targeted by political opponents seeking to weaken his influence within the constituency.

His allies have indicated that a formal response is expected to address the allegations and provide his side of the story.
