The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong warning to aspirants seeking various constituency executive positions across the country, directing them to avoid making cash payments to election officials as the party officially begins another crucial phase of its nationwide reorganization exercise.
The caution comes as nominations for constituency executive positions opened on Monday, June 22, 2026, marking a significant step in the party’s efforts to rebuild its structures and strengthen grassroots leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to the NPP leadership, all nomination fees must be paid exclusively through the party’s designated online payment platform, with no constituency election committee authorized to receive cash payments from any aspirant under any circumstances.
Speaking in an interview, the Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed emphasized that the party had introduced the electronic payment system to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the conduct of its internal elections.
He explained that prospective candidates are required to make payments through the NPP’s online portal and subsequently present their electronic receipts to constituency election committees before they can obtain nomination forms.
“Today is the opening of nominations, and people have started purchasing their forms. There is an online portal where you make the payment, then take your receipt to the committee to collect your form,” Mr. Mohammed stated.
He further stressed that constituency election committees have not been mandated to collect money directly from aspirants and warned party members against engaging in any cash transactions outside the approved system.
“No one should pay money to the elections committee for the form. Make the payment online, submit your receipt to the committee, and then collect your form,” he added.
The directive forms part of broader reforms introduced by the NPP following recommendations from the party’s post-election review process after the 2024 general elections.
Party leaders have repeatedly emphasized the need for transparency and credibility in all internal electoral processes as the party works to reposition itself for future electoral contests.
The constituency executive elections are regarded as one of the most important stages of the NPP’s internal electoral calendar because constituency executives serve as the operational backbone of the party’s grassroots organization. They are responsible for membership mobilization, campaign coordination, electoral strategy, and day-to-day management of party activities at the constituency level.
The nomination exercise is expected to end on Wednesday, June 24, after which all submitted applications will undergo vetting by the various Constituency Elections Committees between June 25 and June 27.
Party members who may be dissatisfied with decisions arising from the vetting process will have the opportunity to seek redress through an appeals process scheduled to run from June 28 to June 30.
The actual constituency executive elections are expected to take place nationwide on July 11 and July 12 under the supervision of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the various constituency election committees established by the party.
Mr. Mohammed also urged all aspirants to familiarize themselves with the nomination requirements and ensure strict compliance with the guidelines contained in the nomination forms.
According to him, adherence to the party’s rules and regulations remains essential to maintaining order and fairness throughout the electoral process.
The positions being contested include Constituency Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, and Communications Officer.
Under the party’s electoral regulations, all aspirants must be members in good standing, have paid their membership dues, satisfy constitutional eligibility requirements, and secure the necessary endorsements before filing their nominations.
The constituency executive elections follow the successful completion of polling station and electoral area elections conducted nationwide over the past several weeks.
Those exercises formed part of the NPP’s comprehensive internal electoral roadmap aimed at restructuring the party from the grassroots level to the national leadership.
Party officials believe the ongoing elections will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the NPP as it prepares for the next phase of its political activities and intensifies efforts toward recapturing power in the 2028 general elections.
