The contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairmanship in Suhum has gained momentum following the official filing of nomination forms by Dr. Emmanuel Ampem Darko, who has declared his intention to lead the party into what he describes as a new era of unity, empowerment and electoral victory ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Dr. Ampem Darko submitted his nomination forms on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, officially joining the race for the influential constituency chairmanship position.

Addressing party faithful, delegates and members of the media after filing his nomination, he outlined his vision for rebuilding and strengthening the party while reflecting on his long-standing commitment and service to the NPP.

The aspiring chairman recounted his political journey within the party, describing it as one built on dedication, loyalty and grassroots activism.

According to him, his service began at the polling station level as a Polling Station Secretary before progressing to Polling Station Chairman.

He later served as Deputy Constituency Youth Organizer, Constituency Youth Organizer, Second Vice Chairman and subsequently First Vice Chairman, experiences he believes have adequately prepared him to lead the party at the constituency level.

Dr. Ampem Darko stated that his decision to contest the chairmanship is motivated by his desire to reposition the NPP in Suhum for a stronger and more united front as the party prepares for the 2028 elections.

He stressed that unity among party members remains the foundation for electoral success and pledged to work tirelessly to bridge divisions and foster greater cooperation across all levels of the constituency.

He also highlighted what he described as his consistent support for the party and its members over the years.

According to him, he has provided financial assistance to numerous party activities and has made his health facility available to party members free of charge whenever they required medical attention, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of the party beyond politics.

As part of his vision, Dr. Ampem Darko announced plans to introduce a comprehensive welfare policy in partnership with insurance service providers.

The proposed initiative, he explained, would provide welfare and insurance support for polling station executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives, former party officers and, ultimately, all members of the New Patriotic Party within the constituency.

In addition to welfare reforms, the chairmanship hopeful pledged to champion entrepreneurship and empowerment programmes aimed at creating sustainable economic opportunities for party members.

He said equipping members with skills, financial support and business opportunities would not only improve their livelihoods but also strengthen the party’s grassroots base.

Concluding his address, Dr. Ampem Darko appealed to delegates and party members to support his candidature, assuring them of transparent, inclusive, and visionary leadership.

He expressed confidence that, with unity, effective welfare systems, and economic empowerment, the NPP in Suhum would emerge stronger and better positioned to recapture political success in the 2028 general elections.
