FIFA Hits Karela United With Registration Ban Over Unpaid Player Debt

Ghanaian Premier League club Karela United FC have been hit with a FIFA registration ban after failing to settle a financial obligation owed to player Sana Camara.

The sanction was communicated to the club by FIFA’s Disciplinary Department in a letter dated Monday, August 17, 2026, following the club’s failure to comply with an earlier decision directing it to pay the outstanding amount due to the player.

According to FIFA, the restriction prevents Karela United from registering new players at both the international and national levels. The ban therefore threatens to limit the club’s ability to strengthen its squad during upcoming registration windows unless the financial obligation is settled.

FIFA stated that the registration restriction will remain in force until Karela United fulfils its outstanding payment obligation to Camara. However, the sanction is subject to a maximum of three entire and consecutive registration periods.

The world football governing body has also directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to immediately enforce the national component of the ban against Karela United if the restriction has not already been implemented.

The case is referenced by FIFA as FPSD-23160 and involves Karela United and Camara. FIFA said the registration restriction had already been activated through its legal portal and would remain effective until the club complies with the financial decision.
