Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has attracted widespread admiration following a powerful message to members of the Asante diaspora in the United States, with his call for unity and togetherness becoming one of the notable moments of his ongoing working visit.
In a speech shared by Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene reflected on the evolution of Pro-Asante groups among Ghanaians and Asantes living abroad and encouraged members of the diaspora community to put aside divisions and strengthen their bonds.
His remarks have generated significant reactions online, with several Ghanaians praising the traditional ruler for what they described as a thoughtful and peace-oriented approach to leadership.
Some admirers went as far as comparing Otumfuo’s wisdom and leadership qualities to those associated with King Solomon, highlighting what they considered his ability to promote peace, unity and collective responsibility.
The message came as Otumfuo undertakes a packed two-week working visit to the United States as part of Millennium Excellence Week America 2026.
The visit has provided the Asantehene with an opportunity to interact with members of the Ghanaian and wider Asante diaspora while promoting cultural ties and strengthening relationships between traditional leadership in Ghana and communities abroad.
One of the major highlights of the tour was Otumfuo’s royal address at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he engaged an international academic audience.
The visit also featured the historic Akwasidae Kese Grand Durbar at Bowie State University in Maryland, an event that brought together members of Asante traditional leadership and the diaspora.
The durbar was regarded as a significant moment for Asante cultural identity in the United States, drawing a large gathering and providing an avenue for the display and celebration of Asante traditions outside Ghana.
Against this background, Otumfuo’s message on diaspora unity has taken on added significance.
His reflection on the development of Pro-Asante groups abroad appeared to focus attention on how such organisations have evolved over time and the importance of ensuring that their activities contribute to a united and cohesive community.
Rather than allowing differences among groups and individuals to weaken their collective influence, the Asantehene urged the diaspora to embrace togetherness.
