The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has unveiled a new official website, www.gjaghana.com, as part of a broader effort to modernise its communication systems, improve access to information and strengthen engagement with journalists, members and the general public.
The GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, announced the launch on Thursday, September 3, 2026, describing the platform as a major milestone in the Association’s ongoing digital transformation.
He said the new website would serve as the Association’s digital home and provide a central, reliable and accessible source of official information about the GJA, its programmes, policies and activities.
Dwumfour explained that the decision to develop the platform was informed by the growing importance of digital communication and the need for Ghana’s umbrella body for journalists to maintain a modern and dependable online presence.
The website is expected to make it easier for journalists and other stakeholders to obtain official information without relying solely on traditional communication channels.
The new platform will provide updates on GJA activities, official statements, press releases, programmes, events, training opportunities and membership-related matters.
It will also feature information on media development initiatives, journalist safety and the Association’s advocacy for press freedom, as well as other resources considered relevant to journalists and media practitioners.
Beyond serving its membership, the GJA says the website will provide the wider public and key stakeholders with direct access to information about the Association’s work.
Development partners, government institutions, diplomatic missions, civil society organisations and other institutions with an interest in journalism and the media in Ghana will also be able to use the platform to follow the Association’s activities.
The GJA President said the launch was particularly important at a time when digital platforms had become central to communication, information dissemination and public engagement.
He stressed the Association’s commitment to ensuring that its digital presence reflects the professionalism, credibility and dynamism of Ghana’s journalism community.
The website is also expected to play a practical role in some of the Association’s major programmes. Notably, entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards are being submitted through the new platform. The submission window opened on September 3, 2026, and is scheduled to close on September 18, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
According to the Association, the online system should make it easier for journalists and media practitioners to participate in GJA programmes, access professional opportunities and remain updated on important developments affecting the media industry.
The launch forms part of efforts by the GJA to build what it describes as a more connected, accessible, transparent and digitally responsive professional body.
Through the website, the Association intends to deepen interaction with its members while providing the public with timely information on matters relating to journalism, press freedom and the safety of journalists.
The GJA has therefore encouraged journalists, members and media practitioners across the country to visit www.gjaghana.com, familiarise themselves with the platform and make it a regular source of official information from the Association.
The Association says it will continue updating and developing the website to ensure that it remains responsive to the needs of journalists while adapting to the changing demands of Ghana’s media landscape.
