The country is suffering from the pains of a moral wound inflicted by President John Mahama.
The seeds of insults which he introduced into the political ambience of the country have germinated, flowered and bearing fruits to the detriment of local values.
At the time he sanctioned the use of hate speech by his sharp-teethed juvenile politicians the temporary yet monumental outcomes excited him especially as it inured to his electoral fortunes.
The cubs have matured and now turning on him ferociously. Of course he has cause to cry foul because his spouse has come under the axis of the fire he stocked even as he nurses his bloodied nose.
The country has been poisoned by a persistently growing trend of hurling of invectives in the most vile language ever witnessed in Ghana courtesy of the recklessness of President John Mahama.
At the time President Mahama went overboard and insulted a whole ethnic grouping with the unsavoury and contemptuous description of Akyem Sakawa Mafia what did he think he was driving at?
Referring to a sitting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the time as Jack Toronto was the most despicable badmouthing by a man supposed to espouse the attributes of statesmanship.
He had let out the hounds of insults on the political terrain rewarding them thereafter with juicy appointments when the ultimate objective of the verbal attacks, political power, was achieved.
His youthful lieutenants excited about the assignments bestowed upon them insulted the former President when he was Commander-In-Chief. The then opposition leader John Mahama was at the time oblivious of the precarious precedents he was setting as he relished the good work of his boys.
The worst of the enterprise was when he engaged an irresponsible foul-mouthed Kelvin Taylor to in a no-holds barred fashion insult everybody perceived to be a political foe of John Mahama including the Asantehene, chiefs, the clergy, judges and military chiefs.
Even more painful is the confession of Kelvin that he was on the payroll of the President to rain insults on political opponents, a statement that has been confirmed by Lawyer Martin Kpebu of NDC fame.
The principle of actions begetting reactions is in full flight as Kelvin Taylor under the auspices of President John Mahama has attracted the equally foul responses of others.
So bad are the reactions that the President has called for the return of the cows which have long fled the barn.
The Stakeholder Engagement on Hate Speech the President has called for is nothing but a useless venture intended to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.
It is intriguing that the President has even listed the groups to make the invitation list.
The inclusion of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on the list appears outlandish and tendentious. It presents us with an attempt at gagging an already limping media. Content creators and bloggers? Are they part of the GJA? In any case what has GJA got to do with the mess he the President birthed anyway?
President John Mahama should credit us with a modicum of intelligence and stop the political pranks. Shedding crocodile tears over the arrest of persons engaged in social media comments and pretending to be doing so on behalf of a distressed free speech is the height of dishonesty. Those being held in prison are there because he ordered the judicial action under a reset judiciary.
After his employee’s attack on Catholic Bishops because they expressed concern about the cocaine wildfire raging across the country President Mahama wants them to come and dialogue on the hate speech he has a copyright on?
The proposed stakeholders’ engagement is a display of the President’s dishonesty yet again on matters of national importance.
It is instructive to observe that the President has still not expressed concern about the graphic insults of women by his own Kelvin Taylor the man he said he does not know yet met his father during the last campaign season. We wish he could tell this to the Marines anyway.
Ghanaians are wide awake today more than they were when he was able to serve them mendacious tales that he had waiting for them a one job three shifts formula. Today they know that he did not mean it when he said he could address the galamsey menace. They now know that under his command his close lieutenants would become cocaine movement facilitators.
Ghana has never been so morally fractured in her post-independence history.
The so-called National Stakeholders engagement is a useless financial loss loading to the debit of the nation.
Whatever happened to the previous stakeholders on galamsey?
We would not be surprised if a national stakeholders engagement on national security is loading even as Blue Gates NDC foot soldiers turned operatives have been turned into hounds of torture in a democracy.
An apology through the expression of remorse, the dismantling of the infrastructure of insults through the decommissioning of Kelvin Taylor and a promise to sin no more is all that can mitigate the mess. A National Stakeholders Engagement on Hate Speech is a bunkum which would achieve nothing besides exposing further the dishonesty of the President.
