Florence Obinim Demands GH¢5m From Obinim In Fresh Suit Over Church Remarks

 BY GRACE ZIGAH

Gospel musician Florence Obinim has reportedly filed a fresh lawsuit against her estranged husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, popularly known as Angel Obinim, demanding GH¢5 million in damages over alleged defamatory comments he made about her during a church service.

The new legal action, reportedly filed at the High Court in Accra on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, adds another dimension to the couple’s increasingly public marital dispute, which is already before the court following Florence’s divorce petition earlier this month.

According to a report, the lawsuit centres on remarks Bishop Obinim allegedly made during a service at the Tema branch of the International God’s Way Church (IGWC) on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

In her statement of claim, Florence reportedly argues that the bishop made statements that questioned her mental state and raised issues about the people with whom she associates. She contends that the comments were damaging to her reputation, particularly given her public profile as a gospel musician.

The lawsuit further alleges that Bishop Obinim read portions of her divorce petition before the congregation during the service and made remarks about the contents of the document. Florence maintains that the handling of the matter in a public religious setting exposed her private marital affairs to a wider audience.

A key issue raised in the suit is the alleged spread of the comments beyond the church premises. According to the claims, the service was broadcast on television, livestreamed online and discussed across social media platforms, allowing the statements to reach a broader audience.

Florence reportedly argues that the alleged remarks amounted to slander when made before the congregation and libel when disseminated through broadcast and online platforms. She is seeking GH¢5 million in damages, contending that the statements could undermine her reputation, public image and professional livelihood.

Fresh Suit Follows Divorce Petition

The defamation case comes less than two weeks after Florence reportedly filed a petition to dissolve her marriage to Bishop Obinim at the Family Division of the High Court in Accra on October 7, 2026.

Her lawyer previously told Peace FM that Florence wanted to end the marriage over allegations involving other women and her husband’s alleged decision to discuss aspects of their private relationship in church.

The new lawsuit is separate from the divorce proceedings, although both cases arise against the backdrop of the couple’s marital difficulties and the public discussion surrounding their relationship.

The legal document reportedly states that Florence and Bishop Obinim married on April 24, 2004, at Faith Assemblies of God Church in New Tafo Nhyiaeso. The couple have three children together.

Reputation and Livelihood at Centre of Claim

Florence’s reported claim places particular emphasis on the potential consequences of the alleged statements for her standing as a gospel musician.
