Suspended NDC ‘SexChairman’ Ofosu Agyare Floors Naa Koryoo’s Camp In Kasoa Election

BY GRACE ZIGAH

The internal power struggle within the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya East Constituency, Kasoa has taken a dramatic turn, with candidates reportedly aligned with suspended constituency chairman Stephen Ofosu Agyare sweeping all positions in the party’s latest internal elections, delivering a major setback to the camp of Member of Parliament Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.

The reported outcome has reignited debate about the balance of power within the NDC in Kasoa, where tensions between the constituency chairman and the MP have persisted amid disciplinary action, allegations of factionalism and controversies over leadership and political influence.

According to reports circulating on social media and political commentary following the election, candidates associated with Ofosu Agyare won every position contested in the constituency polls.

The reported sweep is particularly striking because Agyare remains under a five-month suspension imposed by the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC), effective July 21, 2026. The disciplinary decision followed a petition from Naa Koryoo and recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders.

Despite the suspension, Agyare’s supporters have maintained that he remains a dominant political force in the constituency, describing him as a key organiser and the driving force behind the party’s grassroots structures in Kasoa.

Suspension Fails to End Kasoa Power Struggle

The dispute between Agyare and Naa Koryoo has become one of the most closely watched internal political conflicts within the NDC in the Central Region.

The rivalry intensified after the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections, with disagreements reportedly emerging over political appointments, the management of constituency affairs, legal disputes involving party executives and competing interests ahead of future internal elections.

Agyare’s suspension in July added another layer to the conflict, prompting protests from some branch executives and grassroots supporters who opposed the disciplinary action.

Those aligned with the chairman argued that his removal from active party duties would not erase his influence among constituency members. The reported performance of his allies in the latest elections has given that argument renewed prominence.

Leaked Audio Controversy Adds to Tensions

The internal conflict was further inflamed by the circulation of a leaked audio recording allegedly featuring derogatory remarks about Naa Koryoo.

The recording, which generated intense political discussion in Kasoa, was alleged to have captured Agyare claiming that he had previously had an intimate relationship with the MP and making the statement: “A woman I have slept with cannot intimidate me.”

The recording provoked outrage among some party supporters, particularly sections of the NDC Women’s Wing, who reportedly staged a demonstration demanding his removal as constituency chairman over what they considered disrespectful comments against a female political leader.

Against this background, the reported victory of candidates associated with Agyare has added a new political dimension to a conflict that had already attracted considerable attention within the constituency.

GH¢41m 24-Hour Economy Contract Claim Sparks Fresh Dispute

Even as the party continues to grapple with the fallout from the leaked audio controversy, a separate disagreement over an alleged GH¢41 million government contract further intensified the political tensions.

NDC Central Regional Chairman Richard Kofi Asiedu reportedly alleged during a television interview that Ofosu Agyare had secured a contract valued at approximately GH¢41 million for the construction of a proposed 24-Hour Economy Market project at Mankessim.

Agyare, however, categorically denied benefiting from the project, insisting that neither he nor any company associated with him received the contract.

Responding through his spokesperson and Awutu Senya East Constituency Organiser, Daniel Takyi Mensah, the chairman described the allegation as false and misleading.

Mensah maintained that documentary evidence showed the contract had been awarded to Brison Construction Company Limited rather than Agyare or a company linked to him.

He further stated that, in his capacity as Public Relations Officer and Head of Marketing of Agyare Real Estate and Construction, he could confirm that the company had not been awarded the GH¢41 million contract.

According to Mensah, Agyare had also not received the contract in his political capacity as the NDC constituency chairman.

He accused Asiedu of making what he described as reckless and unfounded allegations that could damage Agyare’s reputation and deepen divisions within the party.

Mensah suggested that the comments risked creating further hostility against the suspended chairman at a time when the constituency was already struggling with factional tensions.
