Have bombs from the hostilities between Iran and Israel landed in Ghana? Of course no even though the fallouts from the developing war will be felt not only in Ghana but globally.
That is how occurrences such as wars when they take place in some theatres impact the global economy.
Only political hypocrites for the sake of their parochial interests will discount this reality.
It is interesting that President John Mahama told the people of Damongo recently during a ‘thank you tour’ of this part of the country that Ghana as a country is not immune to global challenges. In other words he acknowledges the interconnectivity of the membership of the global village.
Hearing him say what he said in Damongo saddens observers of political developments in this country. We recall how when the impact of the Russian and Ukraine war was eroding our economic gains the Akufo-Addo government acknowledged that fact yet proceeded with far-reaching decisions intended to contain the situation.
A President Mahama then in opposition dismissed the excuse as untenable because according to him it was impossible the Russian and Ukrainian hostilities could have effects on Ghana.
It is interesting to note however that when outside the country he acknowledged this fact.
What has changed that today the exchanges between Iran and Israel must impact negatively on Ghana?
Is President Mahama and his party implying that the Russia and Ukraine war scenario cannot be likened to the Iran and Israel situation?
What went round has indeed come around. The Law Of Karma has it would appear no longer taking too long to play out.
The dispute of whether or not the Russia and Ukraine war vis a vis the COVID-19 pandemic were impacting negatively on the country’s fortunes has finally been put to rest.
Those who said President Akufo-Addo was not right when he said the two factors affected the country’s fortunes knew what they said publicly was not the truth but they were being driven by their obsession for electoral advantage with elections then around the corner.
Knowing them they would not express remorse for lying to the good people of this country but the law of Karma as it has already starting exposing them would do more to bring them to their knees.
Politics should be played with lots of finesse and decency bereft of hypocrisy.
The dumsor levy has been suspended ostensibly because of the Iran and Israel exchanges the impact of which on oil prices on the global scene is enormous making it unfeasible to proceed with the new levy.
It is a fact therefore that the levy could have waited for a more ideal time to unfold it rather than the so-called certificate of urgency under which it was pushed through.
Difficult times await the country as government will now have to look elsewhere for the thirty percent shortfall to shore the budget.
If indeed the dumsor levy was intended to purchase oil to manage the energy crisis we are likely going to witness a heightened incidents of power outages across the country. What goes round indeed comes around.
