The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved new league regulations for the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, and Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, set to take effect from the 2025/26 season.
The revised regulations aim to provide greater clarity and uniformity across all levels of domestic football, following a thorough review of the existing rules.
Key Focus Areas
The new regulations focus on several key areas, including matchday procedures, league structures, competition rules, player eligibility, and disciplinary systems.
The framework also incorporates the GFA Registered Academies Licensing Regulations 2025, ensuring that all affiliated youth academies align with national development standards.
Similar regulatory frameworks have been adopted for both the Division One League and the Women’s Premier League.
Objectives
The GFA’s objectives in introducing the new regulations are to:
– Improve the organization of competitions: Ensure that all leagues are well-structured and run smoothly.
– Enhance fairness: Promote fairness and transparency in all competitions.
– Promote compliance: Ensure that all clubs and players comply with the regulations.
– Ensure better governance: Improve the overall governance of the leagues.
Implementation
The GFA will engage the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs in a meeting to discuss the rollout of the new regulations and related matters.
Separate meetings will also be held with the 48 Division One League clubs and the 20 clubs in the Women’s Premier League.
The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off between September 12 and 15, 2025.
