Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a former Board Chairperson of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiring with the fund’s CEO to cause financial loss of $2 million to the state in the SkyTrain project.
He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢10 million with two sureties by the High Court in Accra.
Background of the Case
The case against Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi and the former CEO of GIIF, Solomon Asamoah, alleges that they caused financial loss to the state through their actions in the SkyTrain project.
The prosecution led by the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, presented the charges against Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, who pleaded not guilty to all four counts.
Counsel for Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, Duke Aaron Sasu, made an oral bail application, citing his client’s advanced age and poor health.
He argued that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s health conditions would make a denial of bail particularly burdensome and potentially dangerous to his well-being. The prosecution did not oppose the bail application.
Court’s Ruling
Justice Comfort Kwasiwor Tasiame admitted Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi to bail in the sum of GH¢10 million with two sureties.
The sureties must provide justification with landed properties located in Accra and deposit copies of their Ghana Card.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is to deposit his passport and report to the investigators once every week.
The case has been adjourned to June 10, 2025.
