Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has reportedly declined an appointment to the committee tasked with identifying Ghana’s next head coach of the Black Stars.
Baffoe was named as a member of the five-member committee formed to assess and recommend a suitable replacement for former head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The committee is chaired by former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe and includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, FIFA high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu.
Reports indicate that Baffoe had not formally accepted the appointment before his name was announced and was not adequately consulted about his proposed role. He is subsequently understood to have informed the relevant uthorities of his decision not to serve on the committee.
Despite declining the assignment, Baffoe is reportedly willing to support Ghanaian football in other capacities.
The committee was constituted following a meeting between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana
Football Association on Friday, October 2, after the departure of Queiroz.
Its mandate is to identify, assess and recommend a suitable candidate to take charge of the Black Stars, with the committee expected to submit its report by Friday, October 9.
Baffoe’s reported withdrawal comes at a critical time for the national team, which is seeking to recover from a disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars opened their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering another setback in their second match, losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The two defeats have left Ghana without a point from its opening two matches and increased pressure on the Ghana Football Association to appoint a coach capable of turning the team’s fortunes around.
