Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the royal family and people of Asante Mampong following the death of their paramount chief, Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II.
As part of his ongoing “Thank You Tour” across various regions, Dr. Bawumia made a solemn stop in Mampong to pay respects to the memory of the late traditional ruler.
Accompanied by members of his team, he visited the palace of the occupant of the Silver Stool, where he was received by the Queenmother of Mampong, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, and other traditional leaders.
In his interactions, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the immense contributions of the late Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II to the socio-cultural and political life of Asante Mampong and the broader Asanteman.
He extended his sympathies to the bereaved Queenmother and the chiefs and people of the traditional area, describing the passing as a significant loss not only to the Mampong Kingdom but also to the entire Ashanti Region.
Dr. Bawumia also paid a personal visit to the wife of the late paramount chief, offering words of comfort and expressing his deep sorrow over her husband’s demise.
Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II, who ascended the Silver Stool decades ago, was known for his wisdom, dignity, and dedication to development.
His leadership saw significant advancements in education, health, and culture in the Mampong Traditional Area.
As a respected voice in the National House of Chiefs, he was also a key figure in national affairs, often advocating for peace and unity.
The death of the Mamponghene has sent waves of mourning across Asanteman, with tributes pouring in from traditional rulers, politicians, and ordinary citizens alike.
