Ghanaian disc jockey and radio presenter Rexford Adu Ntim, popularly known as DJ KA, has publicly apologised after an old private video resurfaced online, triggering widespread discussion across social media and raising fresh concerns about privacy, cyber extortion and the growing culture of sharing intimate content without consent.
The Kessben FM presenter, widely celebrated for promoting classical Ghanaian highlife music and recognised as the Highlife DJ of the Year at the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, has found himself at the centre of one of the country’s biggest entertainment controversies after the explicit footage circulated widely across various digital platforms.
As the video dominated online conversations, DJ KA issued a public statement accepting responsibility for his past actions while pleading with Ghanaians for forgiveness and understanding.
“I sincerely apologise to my family, friends, fans, listeners and the general public for the recent video that has circulated online. I take full responsibility for my actions and the pain this has caused,” he stated.
The broadcaster explained that the video was recorded four years ago during what he described as one of the most difficult and private periods of his life while he was still employed at Silver FM.
According to him, the footage no longer reflects the person he has become, insisting that he has grown personally and professionally since the incident occurred.
“I want to clearly state that the video was recorded four years ago during a very difficult and private period in my life. It does not reflect who I am today. I have grown, learned from my mistakes, and I remain committed to being a better person and continuing to serve you through my work,” DJ KA said.
He concluded his statement by asking the public to forgive him and continue supporting his career despite the controversy.
Beyond the apology, DJ KA also provided his version of how the private recording eventually found its way onto social media.
According to the radio personality, the footage had been secretly recorded by a former colleague during his days at Silver FM and was allegedly used as a tool for blackmail and extortion, particularly around the period he left the station to join Kessben FM.
He further claimed that although the video had remained private for years, it was mistakenly uploaded to Snapchat by his nephew, leading to its widespread circulation across multiple social media platforms.
His allegations have since fuelled discussions about cyber extortion, digital privacy and the unauthorised publication of intimate material.
The controversy has generated intense public debate, with social media users expressing sharply divided opinions.
While some critics questioned the conduct of a respected public figure and expressed disappointment over the incident, others argued that the circulation of a private video without consent amounted to a serious violation of personal privacy and should not be encouraged.
Several commentators urged the public to stop downloading, forwarding and discussing the footage, insisting that mistakes made in private should not be weaponised to destroy an individual’s career and reputation.
The scandal has also revived conversations about DJ KA’s previous public commentary on morality and relationships. Some social media users resurfaced old videos in which the presenter criticised others involved in similar controversies, accusing him of hypocrisy.
Others, however, defended the broadcaster, arguing that private mistakes should not overshadow years of professional excellence and contribution to Ghana’s media and entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, another social media personality, Madam Aves, publicly distanced herself from rumours linking her to the leaked footage after some users falsely suggested she was the woman seen in the video.
Speculation has also circulated online regarding the identity of the woman captured in the recording.
However, no official confirmation has been made, and none of the individuals mentioned in online discussions has publicly confirmed being involved. Media observers have therefore cautioned against spreading unverified claims or engaging in the online harassment of persons based on speculation.
Despite the controversy, DJ KA has continued with his professional duties. In one of his first public appearances after the video surfaced, he shared a TikTok video showing himself with rapper Kweku Flick and media personality El Lizato.
While some interpreted the post as a sign of resilience, others criticised him for appearing unbothered by the unfolding scandal.
