The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) has announced plans to prune trees along the Atomic-Kwabenya Highway on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The exercise, which will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., has been approved by the Executive Director of the Forest Service Division of the Forestry Commission.
Tree Felling
As part of the exercise, eight mahogany trees and six Leucaena trees will be felled, while 43 mahogany trees on both sides of the highway will be pruned.
The GAEC has received support from the Electricity Company of Ghana and other stakeholders for the planned activity.
Road Diversion
The Ghana Police will provide assistance with road traffic control on the day of the exercise.
Motorists are advised to expect some disruptions and to follow the instructions of the police and other traffic controllers.
The purpose of the tree pruning exercise is not explicitly stated, but it is likely aimed at maintaining the safety and integrity of the highway.
Tree pruning can help prevent branches from interfering with power lines or obstructing traffic, reducing the risk of accidents and power outages.
