The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee has announced that a rerun of the Ashanti Regional Chairman Election will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
This decision follows a ruling by the Association’s Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC), which called for fresh polls to ensure fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to the Association’s electoral guidelines.
The EDAC’s decision was made after a thorough review of a petition and submissions from stakeholders.
The petition challenged the outcome of the June 30 polls, which elected Kofi Adu Domfe of the Multimedia Group who had 16 votes against Georgina Ama Ankomah with 15 votes, citing irregularities, including the creation of a supplementary voter list on election day and concerns surrounding the eligibility of some voters.
Notably, a voter registered in the Greater Accra Region was allowed to vote in the Ashanti Region, which was deemed a significant breach given the one-vote margin of victory.
Voting Details
The rerun election will be held at the Electoral Commission Regional Office in Kumasi, with polls open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Eligible voters are required to present their Ghana Card or Passport for identification.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana will oversee the process, ensuring the integrity and transparency of the election.
Call To Action
The GJA Elections Committee urges all eligible members in the Ashanti Region to participate in the process and uphold the values of integrity, unity, and professionalism that define the Association.
A composite Ashanti Region Voters’ Register will be published on the GJA website and regional platform this week, and made available to all candidates.
